Test #1:

The Vehicle: For our first test, we purchased an EnergyCel™ unit and installed it on a 1995 Ford F-350 4WD Truck with a 7.3 Liter Power Stroke Diesel Engine. We changed the oil and filter, check the tires for proper pressure, and tested the mileage and engine RPMs at various speeds. The truck odometer reading at the time of the EnergyCel™ installation was 174,000 miles. The fuel mileage was consistently measured between 13.5 and 14 miles per gallon. With two diesel tanks, totaling 35 gallons, the truck normally ran about 450 miles between fill-ups.

Getting Prepared: We only needed a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to install the unit, as the EnergyCel™ kit contained everything else we needed, including complete, simple instructions, screws and lock nuts, foam pads (as needed) and a heavy duty nylon strap, for securing the unit (also as needed).

Installation: On this F-350, we found the best place to install the EnergyCel™ was inside the driver's side frame rail, just forward of the fuel tanks. The EnergyCel™ unit fit right over the non magnetic fuel line, in this case a rubber hose. The entire installation procedure was complete in fewer than 10 minutes, start to finish. EVERYTHING needed for our installation was contained in the EnergyCel container (about the size of a jar of peanut butter.) There is an Official Installation Center available in our local area, but we wanted to explore the difficulty for our test.

Re-Setting the ECU:Please refer to our page on re-setting the Auto's computer. This is a very important step in achieving optimum results! On most pre-1997 models, a simple procedure will re-set the computer. On newer models, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) computers can be re-set at AutoZone for FREE!

Results: With the first tank of diesel fuel, the mileage increased to over 15 miles per gallon. Good, but not overwhelming. However, over the next several tanks of fuel, the miles per gallon steadily increased until settling at 17 miles per gallon. After a dozen fill-ups since we began our test, the vehicle now consistently gets 17 mile per gallon, with an all-time high of nearly 18 miles per gallon. That's a 21% INCREASE IN MPG! As a result, the time between fill-ups has increased from 450 miles to 550 miles! With Diesel Fuel near $3.00 a gallon, fuel cost to top off the tanks average $100.00. The EnergyCel™ has created fuel savings of over 20%, resulting in a $20.00 SAVINGS ON EVERY FILL UP! FOREVER! At just 5 tanks a month, at current fuel prices, the EnergyCel™ on this vehicle will pay for itself and save over $1200.00 a year in fuel cost.

The EnergyCel™ unit also resulted in a drop in engine RPMs. At 70mph, we measured a reduction of RPMs from: 2100rpm (before) to 1850rpm(after). There is also less knocking from the diesel engine! It is significantly quieter!

IMPORTANT FOLLOW-UP: As we were advised to do after installing the EnergyCel™ on an older vehicle, oil and filter were changed again after 1500 miles. As the engine burns more efficiently, it will burn a little hotter, thereby burning off some of the carbon deposits that had been building up for years. At the 1500 mile oil change the oil was VERY DIRTY, COAL BLACK, even MUCKY. The next oil change was after 2500 additional miles, and again the oil was VERY DIRTY, but not as mucky. On the third oil change, again after 2500 miles, the oil was a nice brown color, visibly cleaner than on the previous changes. Over time, the oil will last longer, and time between changes will increase.
